I found a
fantastic talk about being steadfast and immovable, written by Elder
Ballard and included in the December 1993 Ensign. We based our whole
New Beginnings on this, and we're looking forward to tying camp and
other activities into this theme! In the talk, Elder Ballard says
we're like ships, and Christ is like the anchor that makes us
steadfast so that we don't wander out into the sea of temptation and
sin. The links of the chain that connect us to the anchor are
prayer, scripture study, church attendance, etc.
We gave the girls little wooden magnets--a little ship and a little
anchor, connected by a golden cord (chain) that I picked up @ the
fabric store. The ships and anchors (from the craft store) were
already painted, and only cost about 20 cents each! One of the
leaders found some cute anchor charms at the bead store that she put
onto bracelets for each of the girls.
We have decorated the bulletin board in the YW room with a ship
floating on water, connected by a (paper) chain to the anchor of
Christ so that the girls can be reminded of this theme all year
long!
