Practical Skills Relay

Contributed by: A. Massey -Warrenton Ward St. Louis, MO

Here is a brief description of the Practical Skills Relay.  The following are ideas for the skills you can use:  Fold a sheet, fold a button-up shirt, plant a flower (use a pot, dirt, hand trowel, small plant and a drop cloth), tie a tie, iron a shirt, make a PB&J and eat it, drive a nail in a board, change a diaper, sew on a button.  Before you begin arrange for an adult to be in charge of each area and be prepared to judge and demonstrate how to do the skill.  Each adult will need a stopwatch or a second hand watch.    When the kids came we took
them to every area and each adult demonstrated the skill, then we gave them a score care to keep track of their times. We also had some one take pictures with a digital camera so we could plug it into the tv and do a slide show at the while the kids added their times.  The lowest score got an extra treat.  It was very fun, fast and easy.
