For anyone interested - here's a
skit I wrote (in last minute desperation!) for our ward last year for camp. (The
stake camp theme was "Sisters in Heart") Our YW really hammed it up and
had alot of fun with it - especially because of all the Interstate construction in Salt
Lake City that summer (and this one too!) I made orange bandanas for them to
wear with "CTR" letters sewn into one corner. They wore them all week

Setting: I-15 Construction (hard hat workers downstage, barricades, car A off to
side) Introduction: (YW Leader #1, entering from stage Left, carries sign
across stage that says "Hearts and Souls Under Construction / presented by
_____________ Ward Young Women") (All YW and YW Leaders without speaking
parts are construction workers - dressed in orange hard hats or bandanas and orange vests,
and sing 1st Verse - to the tune of Nephi's Courage)
The Lord gave us commandments Which we must obey, But sometimes there are
voices Getting in our way. We are trav-el-ing this highway here with you, We
just did not expect the construction breaking through.
Car A: (already set up on stage RIGHT with 4 YW in car, RIGHT side of car facing audience)
(YW #1)We were drivin' down the road Mindin' our business, When we got so
distracted With the I-15 mess.
(YW #2)Some guys said "don't be chicken" Marijuana is cool, And if
you don't just try it We'll think you are a fool!
(YW #3)It was a real temptation To fit in with the crowd, And all their many
voices Were speakin' real loud.
(YW #4) But we YIELDed to the prompting (Construction Worker holds up YIELD
sign) That came from up above, To get back on the highway Of our
Father's - WHO WE LOVE!
(Car A with 4 girls moves BACKSTAGE right and turns the car so LEFT side faces
audience showing sign that says "YIELD TO THE PROMPTING OF THE HOLY GHOST" while
construction workers sing, to the tune of "We Work hard for the money":
"We work hard to be righteous So hard to be righteous We work
hard to be righteous In the choices we make each day"
Car B Limo: (3 YW - come in from stage LEFT, with LEFT side of car facing audience)
(YW#5) I was traveling one day - doing just fine Goin' down I-15 When all of a
sudden I hit a chuck hole This great looking guy named "Dicaprio" He
asked me out on a date!
(YW#6 ) WHAT?
(YW #5) Yes - asked me out on a date!
(YW #6) Man! What did you say?
(YW #5) It was really hard - I wanted to go. I had to STOP - yeah, and said,
"No". (Constr. Wrkr hold up STOP sign)" "I'll go with you later
- when I'm sixteen. I'm so very sorry - Leonardo".
(YW #7) That had to be tough Following the rule, But it came from a
prophet And it will bless you.
(Limo B and 3 YW move BACKSTAGE left and turns car so that RIGHT side of car faces
audience with sign that says "STOP and listen to a prophet's voice" while
construction workers sing: "We work hard to be righteous So hard to
be righteous We work hard to be righteous In the choices we make each
day."Car C: (with 3 YW - enters from stage RIGHT, with right side of car facing
audience).(YW #8)We were with a
bunch of friends Goin to a show, But when we all arrived there It was an
"R" - wouldn't you know?
(YW #9) They all decided "It's okay - We'll just close our eyes - Ignore
the bad words and scenes Let's go - come on you guys!"
(YW #10) We decided not to see it And do what our prophet said Avoid all evil
in this world Or we would reach DEAD END. (Constr. Wrkr hold up DEAD END sign)"
(Car C and 3 YW move to BACK of stage right and turn car so that LEFT side of car faces
audience with sign that says "Wrong choices are DEAD END choices" while
construction workers sing: "We work hard to be righteous So hard to be
righteous We work hard to be righteous In the choices we make each
day."
Car D School Bus: (6 YW in bus enter from CENTER of audience and settle stage LEFT with
right side of bus facing audience)
(YW#11) We were headed down the road Havin' lots of fun When we got
really tempted To do something real dumb.
(YW#12) We thought we might try wearing Immodest clothes today Then
realized - thank goodness - We're choosing the "WRONG WAY
(Constr. Wrkr hold up WRONG WAY sign)"
(YW #13) We like to hang out with our friends Being a "click" is lots of
fun, But sometimes others feel left out They're sad - and all alone.
(YW #14) So now we reach for those alone And find them every day It's best to be a
friend to all We know it's the ONE WAY (Constr. Wrkr hold up ONE WAY
sign)"
(YW #15) One day I stopped there in my class Taking an ugly test Could not think of
the answer Jane had it - at her desk
(YW #16) Now she could just glance over And take a little peek But DO NOT ENTER
cheating (Constr. Wrkr hold up DO NOT ENTER sign)" For it hurts you and
me.
(Bus and 6 YW move to BACK of stage LEFT while construction workers sing: "We
work hard to be righteous So hard to be righteous We work hard to be
righteous In the choices we make each day")
4 CONSTRUCTION WORKERS: (move downstage CENTER)
(YW #17) Each day we must make choices Some tough - some easy to do But each one has
a consequence That has it's effect on you.
(YW #18) When there's a bump or barricade And you're not sure where to go
Remember to SLOW down and pray (Constr. Wrkr holds up SLOW sign) The
Lord will help you know.
(YW #19) For we've been told and know it's true Each right choice made
'long the way (Constr. Wrkr holds up RIGHT turn sign) Will help us in reaching
Our goal of Heaven - today.
(YW #20) And all these choices in our lives Are what this life is for Just
always try to KEEP RIGHT (holds up KEEP RIGHT sign) Back home -
on the best DETOUR! (holds up DETOUR sign)
