Jarvis jodyjarvis@hotmail.comI just did a pre-camp activity and gave our girls a survival kit (our
theme is It's a Jungle Out There) based upon the 6 Be's. Here is what I did:
Be Humble - A white hanky/baby bonnet with Daughter of God embroidered across one edge
along with a poem. I made a card with it with the following quote and scripture:
If we are without conceit and pride and arrogance, if we are humble and obedient, then the
Lord will lead us by the hand and answer our prayers. What greater thing could we ask for?
There is nothing to compare with this. (A Prophet's Counsel and Prayer for Youth, Nov.
2000)Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye
shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as
this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matt. 18:3,4
Be Grateful - Gratitude Journals with the following quote and scripture glued to the
inside cover page: Let a spirit of thanksgiving guide and bless your days and nights. Work
at it. You will find it will yield wonderful results. (A Prophet's Counsel and Prayer for
Youth, Nov. 2000)
Thou shalt thank the Lord thy God in all things. D&C 59: 7
Be Smart - Home made book marks with the following scripture on it: Seek ye
diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words
of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and faith. D&C 88:118 I put a little book
shelf made out of paper on it (like in scrap books). Just a thin line for the shelf and
then little rectangles of different colored paper for the books. It had a ribbon attached
and I laminated it. The quote that I added to it was: You have a mandate from the
Lord to educate your minds and your hearts and your hands. A Prophet's Counsel and Prayer
for Youth, Nov. 2000)
Be Clean - I gave out pink heart shaped bath balms wrapped in cellophane type paper and
added the following scripture and quote on a little tag: My dear young friends . . . keep
yourself clean . . . Walk in the sunlight of that peace which comes from obedience to the
commandments of the Lord. (A Prophet's Counsel and Prayer for Youth, Nov. 2000)
Psalms 24: 3-4
Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that
hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn
deceitfully.
Be True - I made Verite cards. I used another person on this list's idea and modified it
for us. The name of the card was Verite (Truth in French) Under that I had the YW theme
"Stand for Truth and Righteousness" and then the Camp theme "It's a Jungle
Out There". Then I did the card number as the camp dates 08-131415161718-2001.
Then I found a YM logo (the flame one) on the internet and I copied it onto the bottom
right hand corner. I added
Member Since:
Confirmation and Valid Through:
Worthiness and then had a white rectangle where they could sign it with permanent marker.
On the back I listed the Standards of Personal Worthiness. The whole thing was laminated.
I added the following quote and scripture on a little piece of paper rubber banded to it:
Be true to your own convictions. You know what is right, and you know what is wrong. You
know when you are doing the proper thing. (A Prophet's Counsel and Prayer for Youth, Nov.
2000)
Alma 53: 20-21
20 And they were all young men, and they were exceedingly valiant for courage, and also
for strength and activity; but behold, this was not all: they were men who were true at
all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted.
21 Yea, they were men of truth and soberness, for they had been taught to keep the
commandments of God and to walk uprightly before him.
Be Prayerful - I made Prayer Rocks with praying hands stickers and attached the following
quote and scripture: on your knees and pray every day, night and morning . . . Be
prayerful. Call on the Lord in faith, and He will hear your prayers. He loves you. He
wishes to bless you. He will do so if you live worthy of His blessing. (April Conference
1997)
Counsel with the Lord in all they doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou
liest down at night lie down unto the Lord...and when thou risest in the morning let they
heart be full of thanks unto God. Alma 37:37
We went on a safari from station to station and we read the quotes and scripture and then
passed out the gifts. Since it was a safari, I found little notebooks with a bee on the
front that said Bee Happy and the pages inside had bees on them, too. These were their
passports and we stamped them with a bee stamper that I have and a date stamper.
They had also received a tote bag to put all the things in (jungle material) and dog tags
with their names and ward and the theme on them.
All us leaders wore pith hats and we turned out the lights and went around the halls with
flashlights between stations singing "In the Jungle". I decorated each table
with a plant.
Camp Mail Box: How about just using the
regular shoe tree ( the kind that hangs on the door with the pockets...we
used that last year and it was great)...you could do different cut out frogs
and tape it to the front of the pockets with their names on it.
