from Alice-YW Connection) I used the following for one of our Stake Standard's Night and
it was outstanding. I found slides that would work with each "journal
entry" and showed them as a someone read the journal entries. Afterwards we had
a YW (actually she was 21 and if I remember right, she was Miss Utah...or something like
that) speak to the youth about dating and standards. And then we had a young married
couple who married in the temple speak on "dating tips" and ended with a video
called "Godly Sorrow" ...very powerful message. A member of the Stake
Presidency gave the closing rewards. The youth loved the presentations and the
talks. The evening was called "Aspire Higher". We held
this in the Chapel with the Stake President's permission so there were no
decorations. Actually a very simple evening to put together °Ü°Here is the where
I got the idea:

We
had a slide presentation titled,
"Dear Journal." (the slides portrayed what the journal entry was about, there
were about 25 or 30 slides) Our YW pres and her mom wrote it a few years ago.......it's
about a girl who starts dating a non-member and continues to date him and falls in love
with him and eventually marries him, even though she had always said she wanted a temple
marriage.....it had a TREMENDOUS impact on the girls (boys too, I think) and we got
comment after comment.
Then we had the First Counselor in the Stake Presidency (who
was the former bishop of our ward) talk about chastity and then the our bishop gave a few
closing remarks and we had refreshments, the whole evening took about an hour, maybe an
hour and ten minutes...
We called the evening "Aspire Higher." The
invitation we did like a wedding announcement, even mailed them out....We decorated the
gym like a wedding reception complete with a wedding cake and lots of temple
paraphernalia.
