by: Louise Barzee barzee@dcdi.netI just have to write and tell you about a wonderful YW Standards night we
had tonight with Lacey. They invited the mothers and had a speaker...Bro. Kunz. He was
wonderful! He spoke of so many things concerning our youth and how to stay strong. He
showed up with a battle suit on like you see the Nephites wear...made of leather and he
looked quite funny. But he gave some wonderful stories and songs that he had written. He
talked about different parts of the armor and how it protects us each day. I bawled all
through it and could feel the spirit so strong. He admonished the girls to not seriously
date in high school...And to treat and act on your dates like you want the girl your
future husband to treat him...so if you don't want some girls getting passionate with your
future husband and want him clean and pure to take you through the temple, then treat your
date that way because he is someone else's husband....
He talked about the word of wisdom and explained how Satan has no
body and does all he can to destroy your body by tempting you with harmful substances. He
talked about repentance and how it's never too late. Everyone about died laughing when he
sang a song he composed about Nephi getting the plates from Laban...sung to the tune of
"sounds of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkle only it was the "Sound of
slicing" (off Laban's head)...a little gross, but sooo funny.
He told us how hard it was for Nephi to kill Laban...Then he asked
us about our Labans. What must we kill, or get rid of so that we don't dwindle in
unbelief? And he explained about Satan and how he has so many hosts on his side laughing
at us when we do wrong and cheering...but we still have the 2/3 on our side cheering for
us...
He explained that Heavenly Father gave him the name
"perdition"...and in the dictionary, that means Loss....then he made the sign of
and L with his thumb and pointer finger and said "Loser"....Oh what is your
name? Loser?? LOL..it was so funny. He did so well with the youth and touched so many.
And he sang a song about his little brother in law who died from a
snowmobile accident when he was about 12. It was written as if the boy was speaking of how
he died and how he wanted so bad to stay with his family. Then as he feels the presence of
his savior, he feels such a familiar feeling of love and then sings of how he will be
waiting for them to come to him...it was beautiful and gave me such a wonderful feeling of
being able to meet again with loved ones who have passed on before us.
There wasn't a dry eye in the chapel. Even the priesthood leaders
who were with us wept. It was such an uplifting night and I just wanted to share it with
you.
