When my husband did a class on music he started phrases and had people finish them like
"You ain't nothing but a . . . . . . . ."
"One Two Three O'clock . . . . ."
Contributed by: Lori in Colorado JustWtlMe@aol.comThat's what I do when I speak on music. It's amazing that, when you
think about it, that we can retain so much.....even without thinking about it. We may
*think* that we aren't listening but our brains retain it anyway. Case in point.....do we
REALLY listen to the jingles on commercials? Really? Or are we doing laundry, fixing
dinner, vacuuming? Let's try this.
Fill in the blank:
"A sprinkle a day helps_______"
"Two all beef patties, special sauce, _______"
"I'd like to teach the world to sing______"
"It's the real thing, ______"
"Put a Tic-Tac in your mouth and ________"
"Here comes the beer, here's come the_______"
OK, so I know these are old. But how many of you were able to fill in the blanks? You see
how clever music can be? We listen to it, even though we don't think we really are, and we
retain it. Years later, there it is. Now think about the messages that are being
"given" to our youth through music. Pretty scary.
I can go on and on......but I won't! I still suggest that book, though..Making the
Music Decision. There are some good analogies in there that the youth can really relate
to. (Especially the apples and onions story)
