Contributed by: Heather Ingram (1/24/02)A great friend of mine gave
me this idea for a skit about finding and reactivating our "lost sheep"
in the YW program. (We are doing this along in our New Beginnings
program, along with the "Light the Torch Within" theme.)
FINDING THE "LOST SHEEP" skit
For costumes:
Shepherd: Robe and blanket on head
Sheep: White shirt and khaki pants or white or gray sweat shirt and
sweat pants turned inside out to look fuzzy
Floppy ears could be felt material cut out and pasted on yarn and tied
around the head
Torch: Stick with flash light taped on the end or
Construction paper cut out like flames and taped on end
You could have a girl being a shepherd looking for one of her lost sheep
at night so she is holding a TORCH. The other YW are the sheep and some
of the sheep could be talking to the shepherd tempting her with reasons
why she shouldn't look for or contact the lost/inactive sheep. For
example they could say,
"She NEVER comes any way,"
"She goes out on the weekends and Parties,"
"She goes to another church now,"
"I don't know her very well, so I feel too weird to talk to her,"
"We are too busy to call her or go visit,"
"She doesn't like me,"
You know, whatever excuse you can come up with. (If you want you can
have a few valiant sheep that are willing to help the shepherd search
for the lost sheep.) Let the shepherd be determined and very focused in
his goal of finding the sheep. The shepherd may find the sheep a few
times, but the sheep isn't ready to come back to the fold. The lost
sheep says things like, "I don't fit in. Nobody talks to me are even
cares that I am there, etc." Finally after a third or forth approach,
the lost sheep joins the fold, but when he joins the fold no one talks
to her, so she leaves again. The shepherd now takes the whole flock (all
could be holding a torch) to find her again and the flock now
fellowships and becomes friends with the lost sheep and the sheep feels
apart of the flock and is "reactivated."
You could have the girls recite a scripture at the end that talks about
missionary work or bringing one lost sheep unto fold.
Have one girl explain moral of story which could go something like:
Reactivation/Missionary work takes more than just wanting it to happen,
it takes making it happen. Through determination perseverance and all
working together did this one sheep finally feel apart of this flock. It
takes everyone in the YW program working together to bring back a lost
soul. We can reach out to any visitors or lost sheep by helping them
feel loved and included by making the extra effort to be their friend
and talking with them.
For refreshments you could serve "white food" to go with the white sheep
and bring up purity, (Be pure in thought about your friends in YW, don't
gossip or excluded anyone etc......) White Cake and Icing, Popcorn
Balls, Nuts, White Chocolate covered pretzels, Chips and dip, vanilla
Ice cream floats, etc.
