I have been reading
the requests for ideas for next year, and thought I'd pass along something we're going to
do for New Beginnings. We are using the theme "Be of Noble Character" (thanks to
the person who came up with this) and we too will use the 6 Be's from the prophets
fireside for bi-monthly themes.
We are going with a noble theme overall and will be introducing it at New Beginnings using
the story of the "Paperbag Princess" by Robert Munsch. This children's story has
a really good moral to it and many parts that can be incorporated into the theme. Also,
tiny versions of this book can be purchased at a bookstore for a dollar or two, so we will
be picking those up for our YW as gifts.
Our New Beginnings is going to be titled Damsels and Dragons. I'm thinking of perhaps
using a crown for the introduction of the values and having our YW come and place a jewel
on the crown for each different value colour after they talk about it. We'll see.
As for refreshments, I don't think I'm up to creating the fire-breathing dragon cake that was posted
earlier on the list, ... maybe something that can be given in a paperbag?

The theme for our program this year is "Be of Noble Character" and boy did we
have fun putting it all together for New Beginnings. We decorated the room with castle
turrets...carpet rolls (free for the taking from any carpet and flooring store), $5 worth
of tempra paint and a little construction paper in the theme colors for the peaks of the
turrets. As a refreshment we decided on cake with gold coins used as an extra treat to
symbolize the 'treasures of the kingdom'.
