"Bee" Wise in The Choices You Make

[kwildebo@yahoo.com] I gave this lesson last week and used some "Object Lesson" ideas from an old Sunday School Manual (Achieving Individual Spirituality, Sunday School Course 17, 1984). Before class I put 4 small bowls face down on the table, then I put a small pebble under one of the bowls. I did this before anyone was in the class room so they did not know what bowl the pebble was under. I told the girls that they had one chance to choose which bowl they thought covered the object. As I pointed to each bowl, I had the class raise their hands when they thought the object was under that bowl. After they had made their decision, I turned over each bowl to find out which was the correct one. When the activity was completed, I asked the class members to tell me what basis or criteria they used to choose the bowl that they selected. We talked about how this kind of choice was random, it was left up to chance. We then talked about the many choices that we have to make each day and how some of the choices have great consequences and impact our lives on this earth and in eternity. Sometimes our choices can impact the lives of our friends and our posterity. Unlike the game, we should not leave the choices we make to chance, nor should we ignore the possibility that we may not be given another opportunity to make the correct choice before it is too late or before the damage is already done. The second object lesson I used was I put a small stick on the table and asked one of the girls to pick it up. Then we talked about how we can not pick up one end of the stick without picking up the other end at the same time. So it is with choices and consequences. They come together and we are accountable for the choices we make. President Hinckley's Six "Be's" Home |
